Kuari Pass trek cost
The price on a trek page is never the whole story. The Kuari Pass trek cost with TrekYaari is ₹7,000, but by the time you've paid for the bus from Delhi, the long road up to Joshimath, a few dhaba meals and maybe a warmer jacket, the real number is higher. How much higher depends on choices you make, and some of those choices save more money than you'd expect.
This guide adds everything up, line by line. You'll see what the package covers, what each travel option costs, which extras are worth paying for, the small costs most budgets forget, and three worked budgets from Delhi. All prices are per person. Package prices come from TrekYaari's booking page. Bus, train and taxi fares are current ranges from booking sites and change with the season, so check them again when you book.
Quick Answer The Kuari Pass trek package costs ₹7,000 per person for 5 days, Joshimath to Joshimath, including stays, all meals on the trek, a certified trek leader and permits. From Delhi, a realistic total is about ₹10,500 to ₹13,500 per person once you add travel both ways, meals on the road and a small buffer. You can book with a ₹2,000 advance. |

Kuari Pass Trek Package: What ₹7,000 Covers
The Kuari Pass Trek package runs 5 days and 4 nights, starting and ending in Joshimath. Once you reach Joshimath, almost everything is taken care of:
• Stays for 4 nights. A hotel in Joshimath on the first night, then tents at Gulling and two nights at Khullara.
• All meals on the trek. From dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on the last day. Meals are freshly cooked and vegetarian.
• Trek leader and ground staff. Trek leaders hold Basic (BMC) and Advanced (AMC) Mountaineering Course certifications.
• Forest permits and entry charges, including entry into the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve area.
• Safety kit. A first aid kit, oxygen cylinder and pulse oximeter go with every batch.
• Winter trekking equipment such as crampons and gaiters when the trail needs them.
• Completion certificate at the end of the trek.
• Trek insurance [Ops to confirm: is ASC 360 insurance still included?]
What ₹7,000 Works Out to Per Day
Spread over 5 days, the package comes to about ₹1,400 a day. That covers your bed, three meals, hot drinks, a certified leader, a cook and support team, permits and safety equipment in a place where every sack of rice and every tent has to come up the trail by mule or on foot. For comparison, a hostel bed and three cafe meals in Rishikesh can cost close to that on their own.
What the Package Doesn't Include
• Travel from your city to Joshimath and back. Rishikesh transport is an optional add-on.
• Personal trekking gear such as shoes, gloves and jackets.
• Mules or porters to carry your backpack.
• Meals on travel days before and after the trek.
• Personal expenses such as snacks, bottled drinks, phone recharges and tips.
• GST [Ops to confirm: is ₹7,000 inclusive of GST?]
Travel Costs from Delhi to Kuari Pass
Most of the extra money goes here, and it's also where you have the most choice. The trip has two legs: Delhi to Rishikesh, then Rishikesh to Joshimath. For routes, timings and where each bus leaves from, see our guide to bus, train and road options from Delhi.
Delhi to Rishikesh
Option | Approx. one-way fare | Worth knowing |
Bus, basic seater to AC sleeper | ₹230 to ₹1,650 | Around 5 to 7 hours. Overnight buses reach Rishikesh early, in time for the 6:30 to 7:30 AM pickup |
Train, Sleeper class | ₹190 to ₹410 | Cheapest, but most trains arrive too late for morning pickup |
Train, 3AC | ₹520 to ₹1,125 | Same timing issue. Works if you arrive the evening before and stay a night |
An overnight bus is the simplest option for this trek, because it drops you in Rishikesh before the morning pickup. If you prefer the train, plan to arrive the evening before and add a night's stay to your budget.
Rishikesh to Joshimath
It's about 250 km and most of a day on hill roads. Your options:
Option | Approx. cost | Worth knowing |
TrekYaari transport add-on | ₹1,500 return | Rishikesh to Rishikesh. Pickup 6:30 to 7:30 AM at 60s Cafe, Tapovan |
Government bus | ₹400 to ₹600 one way | Cheapest. Early morning departures, slower, several stops |
Private bus, booked online | From ₹750 one way | More comfortable. Limited seats, so book ahead |
Shared jeep | ₹600 to ₹900 per seat, one way | Leaves when full. Can be a cramped ride |
Private taxi | ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 one way | Only makes sense split between several people |
For a more detailed look at this road, including stops and travel times, read our guide on Delhi to Joshimath travel.
Should You Take the ₹1,500 Transport Add-on?
It depends on how many of you are travelling. The table below compares the add-on with a return private taxi at about ₹4,500 each way, split between the group.
Group size | Private taxi, return, per person | Government bus, return | TrekYaari add-on, return |
1 person | ₹9,000 | ₹800 to ₹1,200 | ₹1,500 |
2 people | ₹4,500 | ₹800 to ₹1,200 | ₹1,500 |
3 people | ₹3,000 | ₹800 to ₹1,200 | ₹1,500 |
4 people | ₹2,250 | ₹800 to ₹1,200 | ₹1,500 |
6 people (larger vehicle) | About ₹1,500 or more | ₹800 to ₹1,200 | ₹1,500 |
For groups of up to five, the add-on is cheaper per person than a taxi. Against the government bus it costs a few hundred rupees more, and in return you skip the 5 AM hunt for seats, travel with your batch and get dropped where the trek starts.
Flying In Instead?
If you're coming from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata or further, the nearest airport is Jolly Grant in Dehradun, about 20 km from Rishikesh. A taxi from the airport to Rishikesh usually costs ₹800 to ₹1,300. Flight prices vary too much to quote, but the rest of this budget stays the same. Most flights land in the afternoon, so plan on a night in Rishikesh before the morning pickup.
Stay Costs Before and After the Trek
The package covers your nights from Day 1 in Joshimath. You may need one or two nights outside it:
Where | When you need it | Approx. cost |
Rishikesh, night before | If you come by train or flight and arrive the evening before | Hostel dorm ₹300 to ₹800, private room ₹1,200 to ₹2,000 |
Joshimath, night after the trek | If the trek ends too late to start back the same day | [Ops to confirm: covered in the package or extra] |
Rishikesh, night after | If your onward bus or train is the next day | Same as above |
TrekYaari trekkers currently get 20% off at Moustache hostels which helps if you need a night in Rishikesh.
Gear: Buy, Rent or Add On?
Gear is where first-timers overspend the most. Here's what's worth what:
Item | Our advice | Approx. cost |
Trekking shoes | Buy or borrow. Never rent shoes you haven't broken in. This is the one item worth spending on | Varies |
Warm padded or down jacket | Take the TrekYaari add-on if you don't own one, especially for winter | ₹1,000 add-on (listed at ₹2,000) |
Rucksack, 50 to 75 L | Borrow if you can. Otherwise take the add-on | ₹1,500 add-on (listed at ₹3,000) |
Crampons or microspikes, gaiters | Included in the package when the trail needs them | ₹0 |
Sleeping bag and tent | Provided on the trek | ₹0 |
Trekking pole | Rent or borrow. Very useful on the descent | About ₹100 to ₹150 a day to rent |
Thermals, fleece, gloves, woollen socks | Buy basic versions. You'll use them again | Varies |
If this is your first trek, don't buy everything at once. Our guide to the Kuari Pass trek for beginners covers what first-timers actually need and what they can skip.
Does the Kuari Pass Trek Cost Change by Season?
The package price is the same across the season [Ops to confirm: same price for winter and spring batches]. What changes is everything around it:
Season | What costs more | What costs less |
Winter (Dec to Feb) | Warmer gear if you don't own it. Buses fill fast around Christmas and New Year. A buffer day for snow-closed roads | Nothing much. Winter is the most gear-heavy season |
Spring (Mar to May) | Long weekends and school holidays push bus fares up | Lighter layers. No need for the heaviest jacket in late April and May |
Autumn (Oct and Nov) | Diwali week travel | Quieter roads and buses outside festival weeks |
Hidden Costs Most Budgets Miss
These are small, but together they can add ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 to your trip:
• Meals on travel days. A dhaba meal on the Rishikesh to Joshimath road costs about ₹150 to ₹300. You'll eat two or three on the way up and back.
• An extra night. If your train or flight arrives the evening before, or your return is the next day.
• Luggage offloading. If you'd rather not carry your backpack, a mule or porter costs extra charge 600 to 700 rs
• A buffer day in winter. Snow can close the road for a day. Rebooking a missed train costs more than planning a spare day.
• Tips for the support staff. Optional, and entirely at your discretion. Many trekkers like to thank the cooks and helpers at the end.
• Cash. Joshimath has ATMs, but carry enough cash from Rishikesh in case they're out of service. There's nothing to buy on the trail itself.
• Power bank. There's no charging on the trail. If you don't own one, it's worth buying before you go.
Three Sample Budgets from Delhi
Here's how the numbers come together for three kinds of trekker. Travel figures sit in the middle of the fare ranges above. Each budget includes ₹1,500 for meals, snacks and small expenses on travel days.
| The shoestring trip | The easy trip | Four friends, one taxi |
Trek package | ₹7,000 | ₹7,000 | ₹7,000 |
Delhi to Rishikesh return | ₹1,000 (basic bus) | ₹2,400 (AC bus) | ₹2,400 (AC bus) |
Rishikesh to Joshimath return | ₹1,000 (government bus) | ₹1,500 (TrekYaari add-on) | ₹2,250 (₹4,500 taxi each way, split 4 ways) |
Meals and buffer | ₹1,500 | ₹1,500 | ₹1,500 |
Approx. total per person | ₹10,500 | ₹12,400 | ₹13,150 |
The shoestring trip works if you don't mind early buses and some waiting around. The easy trip costs about ₹1,900 more and takes the stress out of the Rishikesh to Joshimath leg. The taxi option gives a group more control over timing, but it costs more per person than the add-on. Add ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 to any of these if you need the jacket or the rucksack.
Work Out Your Own Kuari Pass Trek Budget
Your total is four lines added together:
• Package: ₹7,000
• Travel: your Delhi to Rishikesh return fare, plus your Rishikesh to Joshimath return cost
• Extras: any add-ons, gear you need to buy, and any extra night's stay
• Buffer: ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 for meals and small expenses on travel days
If you're travelling from Delhi and keeping things simple, that usually lands between ₹10,500 and ₹13,500.
How to Keep Your Kuari Pass Trip Cost Down
• Book your Delhi bus early. The cheapest seats on overnight buses go first, especially on long weekends.
• Compare the add-on with the bus before you decide. For one or two people it's close to the cost of government buses, and much easier.
• Travel as a group of four or more. It makes taxis and shared costs much cheaper per person.
• Borrow before you buy. Jackets, rucksacks and trekking poles are easy to borrow from friends who trek.
• Avoid festival weeks if cost matters. Bus fares jump around Christmas, New Year and Diwali.
• Use your ₹500 voucher. It comes off your next trek or trip with TrekYaari.
Where Not to Save Money
Three things are worth paying for, even on a tight budget. Good trekking shoes, because blisters and slipping on ice can end a trek. A proper warm layer for the nights, because cold ruins sleep and sleep matters at altitude. And a team you trust, because the mountain is not the place to find out an operator cut corners.
Is the Cheapest Kuari Pass Package the Best One?
Not always. Packages for this trek range widely in price, and the difference usually shows up in things you can't see on the listing. Before comparing prices, compare these:
Ask the operator | Why it matters |
How many trekkers per trek leader? | Smaller ratios mean closer attention on summit day and in bad weather |
What safety kit goes up the mountain? | Oxygen, a pulse oximeter and a full first aid kit should be standard |
Are leaders certified (BMC or AMC)? | Certification means formal training in mountain safety and rescue |
Who runs the trek on the ground? | Own team or a subcontracted local vendor |
Is winter gear included? | Crampons and gaiters can add a rental cost if they aren't |
Where do you stay on Day 1? | Hotel, guesthouse or camp changes both comfort and value |
What's the cancellation and weather policy? | Winter batches can be affected by snow |
A few hundred rupees saved isn't worth much if the team cuts corners. For the full list of questions to ask, see our guide on how to choose a trekking company.
Booking and Payment
You can reserve your seat with a ₹2,000 advance, about 29% of the package price. The balance is paid before the trek starts

3 to 4 weeks before | Trekking shoes, so you have time to break them in |
