Understand Hampta Pass Trek Height & Altitude for a Safer Journey
When people hear “14,000 feet,” the first thought that hits them is — “Can I even do this trek?”
The fear of altitude often stops many adventurers from stepping into one of Himachal Pradesh’s most dramatic crossover treks: Hampta Pass.
But don’t worry — we’re here to break down the altitude facts, help you prepare smartly, and make sure no mountain fear holds you back from this breathtaking experience.
Hampta Pass Trek Route and Altitude Journey
The trek begins from Manali (6,700 ft) — that’s where you’ll meet our Trekyaari team and start your journey. From there, we drive up to Jobra (9,800 ft), the actual starting point of the trek.
From Jobra, your hiking journey begins:
Jobra to Chika (10,100 ft)
A gentle hike that gives your body its first taste of altitude gain.
Chika to Balu ka Ghera (11,900 ft)
You’ll start feeling the air thinning slightly here. The terrain is scenic but the real adventure begins.
Balu ka Ghera to Hampta Pass (14,100 ft)
This is the toughest but most rewarding day of the trek. The climb to the pass is steep and intense, with panoramic views that make you forget every ache.
Hampta Pass to Shea Goru (12,900 ft)
After crossing the highest point, the descent begins. Shea Goru is a cold, windy valley — and surreal in its beauty.
Optional Chandratal Lake(14,100 ft)
If you’ve taken the 5-day package, you’ll also visit this magical high-altitude lake.
Is Altitude Sickness Common on Hampta Pass Trek?
It’s rare, but not impossible. Most trekkers don’t face any serious symptoms, especially because we’ve designed the itinerary with enough altitude acclimatization. However, since the trek touches 14,100 ft, some people may experience mild headaches, breathlessness, or fatigue — which are early signs of altitude sickness.
But don’t worry — our Trekyaari leaders are trained and equipped to handle such situations. We ensure rest stops, hydration reminders, and pace control throughout the journey.
