Overview
The Yulla Kanda Trek is built around one destination: the Krishna Temple at 12,778 ft, above Yulla village in Kinnaur. You spend the first two days getting there — a road day from Delhi to Shimla, then a longer drive deeper into Kinnaur to Yulla Khas. Day three is the actual trek: a 24 km round trip that takes you up to the temple and back down to camp. Day four is the return leg to Shimla and on to Delhi.
It's a short format on purpose. You get one genuine trekking day at altitude, bookended by road travel, with an overnight homestay and an overnight camp stay along the way. That makes it a realistic option if you have a long weekend and want to get above 12,000 ft without planning a multi-week trip.
Why Choose the Yulla Kanda Trek?
• Short enough for a long weekend — 4 days door to door from Delhi
• Rated Easy, so it doesn't need a trekking background
• Reaches 12,778 ft in a single trekking day, which is unusual for a beginner-grade trek
• Mix of homestay and camp — you get both a village night and a mountain night
• Fixed, transparent pricing with GST included
• Run directly by TrekYaari's own ground team in Himachal Pradesh, not outsourced to a local operator
Highlights
• Krishna Temple at 12,778 ft — the high point of the trek
• A night in a homestay at Yulla village, sharing a meal and a roof with a local Kinnauri family
• A night under camp closer to the trailhead
• A scenic road stretch from Shimla into the Kinnaur belt
• A trek short enough to complete in one day without needing multiple acclimatisation stops

Yulla Kanda Trek Height, Altitude & Location |
The trek tops out at 12,778 ft at the Krishna Temple. The base for the trek is Yulla village (also referred to as Yulla Khas), in Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh. Shimla is the last major town on the route before the road continues into Kinnaur, and the exact route is shared with every trekker at the time of booking.
Route
The route runs Delhi → Shimla → Yulla Khas by road, then Yulla Khas → Krishna Temple → Yulla Khas on foot, and back the same way to Shimla and Delhi. The road leg from Shimla into Kinnaur follows the Hindustan-Tibet Road (NH-5) corridor, the standard route into the region. A detailed route map with stops is shared with every trekker before departure.
Acclimatization & Altitude Awareness
The one thing that makes this trek different from a typical Easy-grade trek is the ascent profile. You gain close to 3,000 ft in a single day — from about 9,800 ft at Yulla Khas to 12,778 ft at the Krishna Temple — rather than spreading that climb across two or three days like most treks do. That's still well within a fit trekker's range, but it's worth taking seriously rather than treating this as just "a short, easy walk."
Watch for these signs
• A mild headache, nausea, or unusual tiredness as you gain height
• Dizziness or shortness of breath beyond what the pace would normally cause
• Loss of appetite or trouble sleeping if you're camping at altitude
What helps
• Keep a steady, unhurried pace — don't try to outwalk the group
• Drink water regularly through the day, more than you would at sea level
• Skip alcohol and smoking on the days you're gaining altitude
• Tell your trek leader the moment you notice any symptoms — don't push through and hope it passes
• If symptoms don't ease with rest, the safest move is to descend rather than continue to the temple
Genuine altitude sickness at 12,778 ft is uncommon for most healthy trekkers on a one-day ascent, but it isn't impossible — fitness doesn't fully protect against it. TrekYaari's guides are trained to spot early signs and will adjust or turn back the group if needed.
Difficulty
Yulla Kanda Trek is rated Easy. The distance is short at 24 km round trip, and it's covered in a single day rather than spread across several days of walking. What makes it worth taking seriously despite the Easy rating is the altitude — 12,778 ft is high enough that thinner air and cold can catch out someone who isn't prepared, even on an easy trail.
Fitness Required
No prior trekking experience is needed, but you should be able to walk 24 km in a day with a elevation gain of close to 3,000 ft. A few weeks of regular walking, light jogging, or stair climbing before the trek makes the day noticeably easier. If you're not used to physical activity, start building basic stamina at least 3–4 weeks out.
Best Time to Visit
The package is offered year-round, January to December. That said, a trek reaching 12,778 ft behaves very differently in peak winter versus spring, summer, or autumn — winter departures can involve snow on the upper trail, which changes the pace and the gear you'll need.
Planning a winter departure (December–February)?
Check current trail and snow conditions with the TrekYaari team before you book, and be ready to carry additional cold-weather gear.
Weather
Kinnaur sits partly in the rain shadow of the outer Himalaya, so it generally sees less monsoon rainfall than Kullu or Manali, though conditions still vary by year and by exact location. Summer months (April–June) are mild in the day and cool at night. Autumn (September–November) tends to be clear and stable. Winter (December–February) brings cold temperatures and possible snow at higher points on the route, including near the Krishna Temple. Carry layers year-round — conditions at 12,778 ft shift fast regardless of season.
How to Reach
Pickup is from Delhi. The trip covers the road journey from Delhi to Shimla (approx. 375 km) and from Shimla onward to Yulla Khas (approx. 200 km) as part of the package — you don't need to arrange your own transport for either leg.
If you're travelling to Delhi first
• By air: Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) has connections from most major Indian cities
• By train: New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Nizamuddin stations are all well connected nationally
• By road: Delhi is linked to most north Indian cities by national highway
Cost & Package
The Yulla Kanda Trek is priced at ₹7,000 per person, GST included. This covers transport from Delhi and back, meals as listed in the inclusions, one night of homestay accommodation, and one night of camp stay. Final cost can shift with group size or any add-ons you choose — confirm the current price and available departure dates with the TrekYaari team before booking.
Inclusions
• Transportation: all transfers from Delhi to Delhi by bus, tempo traveller, or taxi
• Meals: 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners through the trip
• Accommodation: 1 night homestay at Yulla village (sharing basis) and 1 night in camps (sharing basis)
• GST included in the package price
Exclusions
• Anything not specifically listed under inclusions
• Personal expenses, and any alcoholic beverages
• Personal trekking gear — trekking pole, shoes, rucksack, gloves, warm cap, jacket
• Mules or porters to carry personal luggage
• Rescue or emergency medical costs — rescue will be arranged if needed, but the cost is borne by the trekker
• Towel, soap, and bottled water
Two breakfasts and two dinners are included — lunches and any meals outside those aren't part of the package, so budget for those separately.
Packing List
• Trekking shoes with ankle support
• Daypack or rucksack (30–40L)
• Layered clothing — thermal base layer, fleece, windproof/waterproof outer jacket
• Warm gloves and a warm cap
• Trekking pole (not included in the package)
• Water bottle and a personal water purification method or tablets
• Headlamp or torch with spare batteries
• Sunscreen and sunglasses (UV exposure is higher at altitude)
• Personal first-aid and any regular medication
• Power bank
• Valid photo ID (mandatory for permit and check-in purposes)
• Rain cover or poncho if trekking in the monsoon months
Safety Guidelines
• Follow your trek leader's instructions, especially on pace near the higher sections
• Stay hydrated — altitude dehydrates you faster than you'd expect
• Don't leave the marked trail, even for photos
• Tell your trek leader about any pre-existing medical condition before the trek starts
• Mountain weather can change quickly, even on an Easy-rated trek — carry your rain/wind layer even on a clear morning
• Travel insurance is worth having, since rescue and emergency medical costs aren't included in the package
Tips for First-Time Trekkers
• Break in your trekking shoes before the trip — don't wear them for the first time on the trail
• Pack light. A heavier bag slows you down more than most people expect on the climb to the temple
• Eat something before you start walking each day, even if you're not hungry — altitude dulls appetite
• Walk at your own pace and let faster trekkers move ahead — this isn't a race
• Charge your power bank and phone fully the night before, since charging points won't be available once you're at Yulla Khas
• Say yes to the homestay conversation — it's usually the part first-timers remember most, not the summit photo
Photography Tips
The Krishna Temple sits high enough that you're shooting wide mountain views as much as the temple itself, so a wide-angle lens or your phone's wide mode earns its place in your bag. Early morning light at camp is softer and less harsh than midday sun at altitude. Battery life drops faster in the cold, so keep your phone or camera in an inner pocket, close to your body, when you're not using it.
Food & Accommodation
Accommodation is split across the trip: one night in a homestay at Yulla village, where you stay with a local family on a sharing basis, and one night in camps, also on a sharing basis. The package includes 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners; lunches and any meals during the road travel days aren't included. Let the team know of any dietary preferences or restrictions when you book.
Why Book with TrekYaari
TrekYaari has been running Himalayan treks and expeditions for more than 5 years and has taken over 20,000 trekkers to the mountains, with a 4.8/5 rating from 800-plus trekkers. Trips are run by TrekYaari's own team on the ground in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand — not handed off to a third-party local operator — with certified guides. Pricing is quoted with GST included upfront, so there's no surprise addition at checkout.
On a route like Yulla Kanda, that direct-operations model matters more than it might on a bigger, better-documented trek: the homestay tie-up in Yulla village, the road logistics into Kinnaur, and the guide-to-trekker ratio on the temple climb are all handled by people who work this region regularly, not booked through a local sub-contractor for one batch.
