Kedarkantha trek: which season to avoid and why?
It is very important to choose the season and perfect timing for trekking in the Himalayas. Because the weather in the mountains is unpredictable and especially between July to September during monsoon season. Here’s why Monsoon is the worst season or the season to avoid for kedarkantha trekking.
Slippery trails with mud pits : During Monsoon the trails of Kedarkantha get very slippery and wet, which makes trekking very uncomfortable especially on narrow paths through forests. The trekkers will feel shocks every few hours as they try to avoid slips and falls.
Insects like leeches
Monsoon also takes out leeches and other insects out of their homes which make a major discomfort. As the forests become moist, leeches, mosquitoes appear in large numbers.
Landslides and Roadblocks
Heavy rainfall in the mountains increases the risk of landslides. Roads leading to Sankri, the base village for Kedarkantha, can get blocked, delaying or even canceling treks. This makes logistics unpredictable and adds unnecessary stress to your Himalayan adventure.
Increased Trek Difficulty
All these factors together significantly raise the Kedarkantha trek difficulty during monsoon. Slippery trails, leeches, roadblocks, and wet camping conditions can make a trek that’s normally beginner-friendly feel much more challenging.
