Day 5 Basecamp to Summit and Back to Juda ka Talab
Today is our summit day, the most exhilarating and difficult day of our trek. We started our trek to the Kedarkantha summit at around 3 am early in the morning. Why early? So that we can see the sunrise from the top which is the most unforgettable part of the trek. cSo, wonder why people hike the Kedarkantha trek(1) – to experience the most beautiful sunrise on earth. The road is unappealing, to say the least, taking us from the darkness of the night and into the torchlight. Later the 1.5km steep climb took rest in dhabha. In the torchlight we can see only the fog and all is silent around. The silence is such that we can easily hear the snow crunch under our boots. Our excitement keeps building up. Anticipate chilly temperatures Good: -5 to -10°C The forests become golden from yellow and red to brown. Instead of snow, you hike through meadows and across rocky terrain on your way to the summit. Kedarkantha peak is still towering, challenging you to conquer the summit. And the moment you touch 12,500ft is Summit and all of a sudden every step that you’ve taken to reach here starts making sense, The 360° view of himalayas are so astonishing they look crystal clear from Gangotri to Yamunotri to Swargrohini I, II & III, Bandarpunch I & II, Black Peak, with 13 Himalayan peaks shining like as if they’re basking in sunlight, we visit the small temple dedicated Lord Shiva. We spend some time here; we can't help it because it is too good to be true and collect memoirs by taking pictures. We then start our descent back to the base camp for lunch before heading down to the Juda ka Talab camp. The climb is steep and moderately dangerous with possible mud, dangerous black ice in winter as some warnings. and we slept that night. It’s a long day but certainly THE most memorable and rewarding day of the entire trek!
