Valley of flowers trek itinerary - with a first time solo trekker.
As trekyaari always promises that we offer the safest and most memorable trekking experience with the most comfortable itineraries. So today, we’ll hear about the itinerary for Valley of Flowers from one of our own trek leader, Narender, whose journey with trekyaari actually begins with this trek. From this point on, the words are entirely his:
The Valley of Flowers was my very first solo trek- and it was with Trekyaari. I still remember how nervous and excited I was while waiting at the meeting point in Rishikesh. I was so Excited that I reached there half an hour early. My heart was racing and at that time I was so dumb that I didn't even know what trekking shoes were and why they mattered while trekking.
But honestly, from that day onwards, my life has completely changed. I had serious doubts about whether I would survive during the trek or not, whether I would be able to complete the trek or not. But Trekyaari’s properly planned itineraries, comfortable accommodations, and especially the friendly and supportive trek leaders made it all feel easy and safe.
I didn’t even feel like leaving the trek, it felt like home, so six months later I ended up joining Trekyaari myself as a Trek leader of Valley of Flowers trek. The main highlights of my whole trek was - perfectly planned and balanced Valley of Flower trek Itinerary, Comfortable meals, proper accommodations for rest, full adventure with touch of spirituality also, safety guidance. And the main motive of mine to joining trekyaari was the experience which i had.
Day1:
My trek began from Rishikesh, and I was so excited that I reached the meeting point half an hour early. As we drove onward, the beautiful Alaknanda river flowed beside us, and soon we passed Devprayag (the place where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers merge to form Ganga.) The road was narrow and winding - classic mountain terrain- and just in one ride we saw mountains, waterfalls, rivers, forests….everything, all at once.
The entire drive was for around 9-10 hours, but I didn't take my eyes off the window even for a second - I didn't even want to miss a single view.
Also during our road trip we had a small tea break to enjoy the scenery, had snacks, and stretched our legs. The surroundings were filled with deodar, pine and oak trees, as we got closer to Joshimath, we noticed the air growing thinner and cooler. We even spotted snow capped mountain peaks in the distance.
When we reached Joshimath, we were welcomed with a warm, comfortable home stay and delicious warm food. Later that night to socialize and connect we played games and shared stories. The evening connection made the perfect start to our journey.
Pro tip: sit on the window side of the left side of your volvo/Bus.
Day 2:
We all woke up with full excitement, because this was the first day of the Valley of Flowers trek. As soon as we got up, we were served a warm and delicious breakfast. We packed our backpacks, loaded them into the vehicle, and set off for Poolna.
The journey to Poolna was by car, and from there, we began our 9 km trek, walking alongside the Pushpawati River, eventually reaching Ghangaria — the base village for Valley of Flowers National Park and Hemkund Sahib.
While trekking, we came across 1–2 tea stalls, where we enjoyed hot tea and Maggi, with views of snow-capped mountains and clear skies. The trails did get tiring at times, but just when fatigue started to set in, the Trekyari team had already pre-decided rest spots for us — which kept our excitement alive and growing.
By evening, we reached Ghangaria, where we were served a comforting local meal of Chainsoo (a traditional pahadi dish), hot chapatis, rice, and pahadi vegetables. After a long and tiring day, this soothing meal felt no less than a 5-star hotel dinner.
We stayed overnight in Ghangaria to give our bodies the proper time to acclimatize to the higher altitude.
Day 3:
Arghhhh… Finally, the most awaited day had arrived — the day we would visit Valley of Flowers National Park!
We woke up early, had our breakfast, and got ready to begin the 4 km trek to reach the Valley of Flowers. We arrived at the Valley of Flowers National Park around 8 AM, which gave us plenty of time to explore and admire the beauty of the flowers. The moment I stepped into the valley, I felt like I had entered an entirely different world. I had never seen so many colors together in my life before — it truly felt magical.
We spent around 6 to 7 hours in the valley, and even that felt too short. There were so many different types of flowers, and it wasn’t just their colors that were unique — their smell, shape, size, and texture were all so different from one another.
Although I don’t know much about flowers, our Trekyari’s trek leader was incredibly knowledgeable. He told us about many rare species of flowers, which made the experience even more interesting.
We spent the entire day there, and by evening, we all returned to Ghangaria. Everyone had dinner, shared photos with each other, and there was a special kind of happiness on everyone’s face.
Day 4 Our spiritual trek day — the trek to Hemkund Sahib.
It’s a round trek of about 12 km, and this day is known to be the toughest day of the entire journey. But honestly, it didn’t feel that difficult to us — because the Trekyari team supported us completely throughout the way.
On the way to Hemkund Sahib, there’s a huge glacier that trekkers need to cross. And guess what? I had forgotten my hiking shoes back at Ghangaria and was wearing just regular shoes! But the team had backups ready and they helped me out — because the glacier was extremely slippery.
Also, did you know that you need to register before trekking to Hemkund Sahib? Without registration, entry is not allowed — and many travel agencies don’t inform you about this, which ends up spoiling the experience for many. But Trekyari had already informed us about this well in advance and even helped us with the registration process.
Our trek to Hemkund Sahib ended with peaceful langar prashad and soul-touching Gurbani. After spending some divine moments there, we began our journey back to Ghangaria.
We didn’t even realize, and had already reached the last day of our trek. In the morning, we started our descent towards Poolna, and a strange feeling of nostalgia hit us. We were walking the same path again, but this time it felt more emotional, knowing that the journey was coming to an end. Interestingly, the trail looked even more beautiful while coming down — maybe because we knew we were saying goodbye.
By evening, we reached Joshimath from Ghangaria, and if anyone wanted, they could also explore nearby places like Auli with fellow trekkers.
On Day 6, we began our return journey to Rishikesh.
And just like that… My trek came to an end.
Today also marks one full year of me working with Trekyari, and in that time, I’ve led more than 20 treks. But every single time, I experience something new and unique. And it’s not just me — almost every trekker who comes with Trekyari feels the same. There's always a new vibe, a new level of comfort, and safety remains our top priority every time.
