Hampta Pass Trek Weather
The Hampta Pass trek is one of the colder treks of Himachal Pradesh, known for its two dramatic landscapes one side is covered with lush green meadows and the other side is a cold desert (Lahaul). It is one of the best monsoon treks with just 30km of trekking. The Hampta Pass trek begins at an altitude of 9,800ft, reaching the summit at 14,100ft, and features unexpected rainfall, a U-shaped glacial valley, and lush green meadows. After crossing 8,000 feet, the oxygen level drops and the air becomes thinner. So, before planning the higher altitude trek it is crucial to understand the weather conditions. At this time - you’re probably wondering - is it safe to trek in monsoon season? Does it rain every day at Hampta Pass?
Hampta Pass Trek Weather
One Should visit the Hampta Pass between June and September. The trails turn wet and soft when the snow melts in June. Still, higher locations like Shea Goru are covered with snow giving amazing snowy views and chilly air. At this time, we will see wildflowers blooming and green meadows like Balu ka Ghera looking fresh and beautiful.
At Balu ka Ghera and Chika, the monsoon months (July and August) provide rain and make the place even more vibrant. But the trails get Slippery and river crossing becomes more harder. Even though there is no compromise in scenery views.
By September, the weather rain stops and the weather, skies become clear and stable. September brings the real beauty of the dry and cold Lahaul Valley. The Shea Goru which was covered with snow now has changed into a green valley and also the Chandratal Lake is really lovely with crystal green, blue water surrounded by high mountains. However, the days are not so cold but the nights are so cold and chill.
The month may is only for very experienced trekkers as the trails are completely covered with snow and the weather is unstable. From October to April, because of heavy snow the trails are blocked. If you want to experience winter trekking choose lower treks like the Kedarkantha trek and Dayara Bugyal.
